Thank you so much to everyone who commented on how much you enjoyed a little trip to New York City with me in My Favourite Places in NYC // Part 1 post :) (if you haven't read it, make sure to check it out). I loved sharing those special locations with you all. Ok, now it's time to make a cup of tea or coffee, get Jay-Z ft. Alicia Keys "Empire State of Mind" playing in the background and let's dive into Big Apple because "these streets will make you feel brand you, the lights will inspire you...". As you can see, I am already listening to the unofficial anthem of NYC. Fun fact: this song is played every New Year's Eve when the clock strikes 12. Amazing atmosphere! Today I will take you way (way!) up, we will remember 9/11, feed the squirrels, go shopping, get into the Christmas mood and say hello to Carrie Bradshaw.
I promised you 5 more places but I will give you 2 or 3 bonus ones ;)
Join me to see My Favourite Places in New York City - Part 2.
&
I had to put these two together because, well, Top of the Rock is a part of Rock Center. New York isn't New York without Rockefeller Center. I don't know about you, but whenever I see the main Christmas tree of NYC I think about Kevin reuniting with his mom in Home Alone: Lost in New York :) There is an ice-skating rink right beside the tree. Picture perfect. Top of the Rock will blow your mind away! If you get there at dusk you will get a gorgeous view of the city and will be able to snap the iconic photo of Empire State Building (just like I did in my previous post header photo).
Must-do:
+ go ice-skating on the most popular rink in the world
+ Top of the Rock Observation Deck - an ultimate must-do!
+ visit famous Rainbow Room
+ soak in the breathtaking view, take a tonne of photos and then put that camera away and just enjoy...
P.S. Do you remember photo #8? ;)
Located right beside the World Trade Center, this little harbor is hands down one of the most peaceful places in the city. When you look at the Hudson River, there is a stunning city skyline both on your left and right, there is a WTC behind you and a lovely all-glass shopping centre with fairy lights all over the trees outside. This marina might not be packed with tourists (not as much as Times Square anyway) but it is a must-see when you explore the Financial District.
Must-do:
+ visit Brookfield Place: it's a stunning all-glass / futuristic looking shopping centre with lots of restaurants
+ admire the view of the Hudson River and the city skyline and forget about time
+ make sure you next stop is WTC and 9/11 Memorial...
No matter what nationality you are, 9/11 touches everyone's heart. What happened in New York City on September 11, 2001 made the whole world grieve. This photo was taken from our hotel room from one of our visits to the city. In case you wonder what it shows - do you see two big squares with trees around them? Those two squares used to be Twin Towers, now they are called the North and the South Pools commemorating those whose lives were lost on that tragic day.
Must-do:
+ come up to the Pools, read the names, remember
+ find the Survivor Tree
+ visit the museum and take part in a guided tour if you would like to learn more about 9/11
You might think Central Park is the only park which should be on your must-see list. I have an answer for you: definitely no! :) Battery Park is small but it is absolutely gorgeous. Also, it offers you incredible scenery of the city skyline and the Statue of Liberty. Yes, you can actually see the famous lady from Battery Park, and even take a boat ride to Liberty Island and Ellis Island. Just make sure you pick a sunny day for it. There are gazillions of squirrels in Battery Park and they are very hungry so please make sure you pack a delicious treat for them :)
Must-do:
+ take a boat ride to see the Statue of Liberty
+ sit on the bench and admire the view of the SoL and the waterfront
+ feed the squirrels
+ enjoy free Wifi ;)
+ explore the area (Financial District)
Okay, this one goes out to Carrie & SATC fans :) If you are in New York and you have an hour to spare, make sure to navigate yourself to 66 Perry Street and Bleeker Street. You will see the street where SJ Parker's character lived, her stairway and the window. When we got there, I automatically imagined Carrie sitting by the window typing away on her laptop. Also, pop in to Magnolia Bakery which is literally 2 min away on foot (thanks, Google Maps).
Must-do:
+ take a photo (a must!)
+ enjoy delicious cupcakes at Magnolia Bakery (follow my GoogleMaps directions)
+ explore Greenwich Village - it is beautiful
Macy's is a must-visit spot for shopping. Get ready for hours and hours of the enjoying thousands of gorgeously presented aisles of clothes, shoes, makeup and much more. Located at Herald Square just down the street from the Empire State Building, Macy's offers one of the kind shopping experience, especially during sales! ;)
Must-do:
+ shop, shop, shop
+ visit at Christmas - it is EXTRA special!
Guess what... we finally made it to the creme de la creme and my NUMBER ONE and MOST FAVOURITE place in New York City - Empire State Building! Words are not enough to explain how much I love ESB and how much it means to me. My best and most precious memories of the Big Apple were made there. One of the most amazing days / nights in my life was December 31st 2013 when my then boyfriend / 5min-later-fiance / and now husband proposed to me on the 86th Floor, the highest open-air observatory in New York and the most romantic spot to admire the whole city. We entered 2014 engaged and so happy and excited. Fairy tales do exist when you yourself make them a reality :) I am so blessed and thankful to God for ours <3
Must-do:
+ try NY Skyride if you don't mind non-stop flashing images (a 3D ride that should come free with your ticket: I did it twice and hated it twice though haha)
+ go UP! :) 86th floor and then 102nd floor
+ go to ESB TWICE: in the daylight and at night: both INCREDIBLE!
+ say "yes" to a proposal or propose :D
+ fall in love with New York
So this concludes our trip to New York City though I can already tell you - there will be more NYC-inspired posts in the future ;) I really hope you liked this post. I wish I could recommend you so so many more places to visit when you go to New York. See, I said "when", not "if" ;)

It’s always interesting to see other people’s opinion of New York. I usually hear it’s a horrible place if you’re not used to the rat race, but I really love how you’re showing your favourite places. I would love to visit & experience it first hand for myself. Thanks for sharing your gorgeous photos!

Nadia - I just LOVE this post! Makes me really miss NYC, it is also one of my favorite places in the world to be and visit. Wasn't the 9/11 memorial just so beautiful? I saw it this past May before the museum opened, and it was very grounding. Brings you to a different place and really makes you appreciate life.
